Invited to "GONZI PN" Public Dialogue with the Prime Minister,

Mark convinced the government to introduce legislation for registration of ALL dogs

 

 

Pleading on behalf of the abandoned dogs for enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act and Registration of ALL dogs by microchip, preferably at Local Council level.

The registration proposal was subsequently added to the "GONZI PN" Manifesto, Article "179":

Protection of animals

176. Work will continue on the animal protection centre in Ta Qali, after that now, all necessary permits and calls for tender have been issued, and plans completed.

177. More measures will be taken for the protection of animals, whilst the involvement of NGOs in this regard will be increased, amongst other things through the centre of rehabilitation and animal care that is being developed.

178. A training programme for animal sanctuary staff will be set up, whilst the programme whereby government employees are given secondment to work in such sanctuaries, will be continued.

179. An identification programme will be implemented through the micro-chipping of domestic animals, with the first stage of the project treating dogs.

180. A rehabilitation centre for wild animals in their natural state, such as tortoises, birds and dolphins will be set up at Xrobb l-Ghagin and Dellimara with funds from Norway .

181. A foundation to coordinate projects concerning animals will be set up.
